Shelley Duncan signed a minor league deal with the Indians.
With Matt LaPorta working his way back from offseason hip and toe surgeries, the Indians hope to have some insurance in the corner outfield and at first base. Duncan could potentially provide it. Andy Marte and Jordan Brown will also be in the mix to try to win a job.
"We see [Duncan] as a guy that has a good track record of hitting left-handed pitching and being productive," general manager Mark Shapiro said. "He has defensive versatility that fits well within our needs. He's certainly a guy that could come in and compete for that job."
Randy Johnson is
officially retiring. Not my favorite player to ever wear pinstripes, but there's no denying he had an amazing career.
And I mentioned
last summer that Paul Janish was planning to get married in November. Looks like he
made it to the altar. He looks more than a little soused in the photos, but hey, if you can't drink on your wedding day, when can you drink?
I love this photo, of some of the guests at the wedding.
They are some of Janish's teammates: Chris Dickerson, Drew Stubbs, Jay Bruce, Matt Maloney, and little Danny Ray Hererra. I wonder if he invited everyone, and those are the ones who accepted, or if he limited it to guys he played in the minors with. (It appears that former best prospect in baseball Jay Bruce was in the wedding party. Guess those Texas boys stick together!)
