Because how can you not love a baseball player named "Bubba"?
March 6, 2007: Cincinnati Reds 3, Tampa Bay Devil Rays 1
Well, tomorrow's Battle of the Undefeateds has been spoiled. The Reds did their part, beating the Rays, but the Yankees lost to the Indians, 5-6. That means there's only one undefeated team left: the Cincinnati Reds.
Again, Bubba did not play much today. He was subbed in at the DH slot in the top of the sixth inning, and got two at-bats. They aren't using him in the outfield very much. Perhaps they don't think he has anything to prove on defense.
Another good day for the Reds and Bubba, if not quite as dramatic as yesterday. Bubba came to the plate in the sixth with one out, a man on 1B. He hit a single - a grounder to right field. Jerry Gil, up next, hit a dribbler back to the mound. Bubba slid in hard to 2B, trying to prevent a double play. He was successful; he was out, but former Red Brendan Harris' throw was too late to get Gil at 1B. But the next batter, David Ross, flew out, ending the inning.
