Mike Myers DFA'd

According to Peter Abraham, the Yankees will DFA Mike Myers before Monday's game.

Good move. I never much liked the idea of a lefty specialist, at least the way Torre would use him. It's just not a good use of a roster spot. Having a guy who only comes in to get one out is a waste, at least with Torre in charge.

And Myers wasn't even a very good LOOGY. He was actually better against righties than lefties.

Last year, someone argued that it was Mike Myers who cost Bubba his roster spot. With Myers only able to pitch to the occasional lefty (at least as Torre used him), the Yankees simply could not go with only 11 pitchers. Someone had to go, and it was Bubba.

If they'd had a normal relief pitcher rather than a LOOGY, they might have been able to carry Bubba until rosters expanded. Would Bubba still be with the Yankees now? Probably not, but the Yanks could have used his speed and defense those last couple of months. There were several occasions where the lack of a good pinch-runner and defensive center fielder came back to bite the Yankees, particularly in August.

This may just save Shelley's life.

Time to trade Farnsworth for some new grounds crew equipment (or used equipment would be fine, too.)

I dunno. I think they may call up another pitcher, rather than keep Shelley when Giambi comes back.

If you want to play to win, as they Yankees claim they do, you play the damn players that perform the best, ignoring the egos, and no matter whether the player is making 200k or 200mil.
