Mystery Solved?

The Reds revealed today that Victor Santos gets the last roster spot. Eddie Guardado was moved to the 60-day DL to clear a roster spot for him.

Of course, if this was their plan all along, they could have done it yesterday. Something was up. Krivsky confirmed that they had a couple of deals brewing Sunday, but they fell through.

We'll probably never know which player(s) they were angling for. Trent, in his article for the Post (since amended in the light of events), speculated that Bubba or Bellhorn might have been in contention for the last roster spot, but I think it was some kind of waiver claim or trade.

The roster is clearly still in flux. They'll have to make another move when Milton comes off the DL. And the bench is definitely rather thin, considering how injury-prone Griffey and Freel are. If Bubba plays well in Louisville, he'll get his chance.

The Bats supposedly had a game on Sunday, but I don't know if Bubba played in it. I haven't seen any news on it at all.

The Bats will have a open workout on Wednesday, with both the media and the general public invited. It's free. They have their first game of the season the day after that, on Thursday. It's a night game, so I guess I'll be following it on MiLB.TV.
