All Things Bubba

Because how can you not love a baseball player named "Bubba"?

"You look better in pinstripes!"

Tonight's game went pretty well for Bubba. He hit a clutch single in the 7th, plating two go-ahead runs. It proved to be the game-winner. And he had a catch in left field that seemed to impress the announcers. I'll post more about the game tomorrow.

According to Trent, someone in the stands yelled to Bubba, "You look better in pinstripes!" LOL! A Yankee fan who misses him, maybe?

Trent asked me if I agreed, and I realized that I really haven't seen Bubba in a Reds uniform (aside from the small photo I posted the other day). But someone sent me these photos tonight, from the Reds' picture day.

Looks like he did shave and cut his hair for the occasion:

Bubba Crosby's evil twin?

Nice pics, but I must say the Reds used rather odd lighting this year. It's not just Bubba's; the photos I've seen of the other Reds are the same. Sort of underlit. Which has a tendency to make people look diabolical. Maybe they wanted to make them look tough. Maybe they were trying to avoid having the baseball caps throw shadows over the players' faces. But they ended up looking like photos of everyone's evil twin. For example:

Evil!Arroyo
Evil!Lightenberg
Evil!Milton

Like that "Mirror" universe in Star Trek... ;-)

Hey, I was just wondering do you know the best Reds fan sites as far as play by play game threads and/or blogs/message boards that are the most popular? I'm used to nyyfans.com site where you had tons of people following/listening to the game together and different people filling in the blanks inning by inning for those who are at work or can't get the audio/video of the games. Would you happen to know?

Yeah, I know what you mean. Those Yankees game threads are great. I haven't found anything like it in Redsland yet. I think part of the problem is that they simply don't get the media coverage the Yankees do. Especially during spring training. They don't even get some of the spring training games on the radio, near as I can tell. So there aren't as many people who can give play by plays.

I think it will pick up when the regular season starts. For now, Trent's blog is probably the best. He doesn't actually give play by plays, but he is actually at the games, which helps.

SmartElf at Red Hot Mama has been giving play by plays for spring training games, from Gameday Audio, though I don't if he'll do it for every game.

Red Reporter has game threads during the regular season, but not during spring training. Well, they did it for the first ST game, but I don't think they're planning to do it for every exhibition game.
