Yankees notes

One Yankee fan misses Bernie Williams

Like the Reds, the Yankees play their first spring training game today, against the Twinkies. It will of course be on TV. (I hadn't realized how spoiled we big-market fans are; the Reds game will be on the radio only.)

MSNBC picked A-Rod and Jeter as co-winners for Whine of the Week. I must say, I'm really surprised at the backlash Jeter is getting over the whole A-Rod thing. I thought he was the Teflon man. Guess not.

And former Yankee infielder Nick Green has found a home. The Yankees outrighted him to Scranton at the end of last season. Green refused the assignment and became a free agent. He signed a minor-league deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates in January. I don't know if we'll see him against the Reds today, though. He injured his toe yesterday, running out a fly ball in Pittsburgh's intrasquad scrimmage.
