Last Call

The Yankees announced another round of roster moves today. Pitcher Sean Henn and infielder Andy Cannizaro have been called up from Columbus. Henn was already on the 40-man roster. Carl Pavano was moved to the 60-day DL to clear roster space for Cannizaro.

I suspect this is the last round of callups. Maybe Kevin Thompson will be added later, once he's healthy. Bubba was not called up, even with the Clippers done for the year. Sigh. He might still be called up if there's an injury, but in all likelihood, his season is done.

UPDATE from LoHud:

The Yankees will be adding Miguel Cairo and blog Hall of Famer Kevin Thompson to the roster this weekend. Both are still rehabbing injuries. Bubba Crosby was considered, Joe Torre said, but he would have needed a spot on the 40-man roster.

Boo, hiss!

Why the frak did Melky automatically get the starting job anyway once Matsui went down?

Let's see... How to take more life out of the Yanks. hmmmm...

I know! Why don't we designate Mo while we are at it.

And maybe even re-sign A-Rod to a new 35 year / $100 trillion deal.

@!%$ing idiots.

I really don't get it. There's room on the roster. Cannizaro, but not Crosby? When we have a million infielders already? And Reese could be put on the 60-day DL.

Some are speculating that Bubba hurt his chances when he got so upset at being DFA'd. For whatever reason, he seems to have fallen out of favor with the Yankees.

Is it just me, or does Bubba look like he's lost a lot of his pep and spirit in those pictures?

I'm not just very angry about this situation. I also think it's going to cost the Yankees (or perhaps already costing them). Torre obviously doesn't trust Guiel as relief in CF. Damon has been playing hurt for quite a while now. He is even staying in blowout games when others come out for a rest. Everyone loves Bernie, but we've seen his CF skills drastically decrease. Who plays CF in the ALDS if Johnny goes down? Abreu? A just returning Matsui? Sheff? I'd like an answer on that one.

I guess it's going to be Kevin Thompson as backup CFer down the stretch. As soon as he's healthy. He's got good speed - possibly even faster than Bubba - but is not as good a CFer.

As for whether Bubba's lost some of his spark...it's probably the difference between playing for a team that's still in contention, vs. playing for a team that has only pride to play for. All the Clippers seem pretty subdued, probably because they've had a bad season and have long been out of it.

Though now that you mention it, Bubba hasn't shown quite the same spirit since coming off the DL in June. That had to be a bitter disappointment, unable to play just when he was getting playing time and hitting well.

If only they had never gotten Abreu and maybe Bubba would still be on the team! Bubba could have played RF a lot better than Bobby, who seems to be afraid of the wall, and with some regular at bats he could be a good hitter, too. Sigh!

I miss Bubba. Yankees just games aren't the same without him.

I was driving home from work today, when "Centerfield" came on the radio. It made me want to cry.

Bubba for President!

Bubba's too young to be president. But I'm sure he'd do a better job than any of the people actually running...
