The horror story continues

September 8, 2006: Baltimore 9, N.Y. Yankees 4

Ack! The Birds! What is it about the Orioles? They've become this year's Tampa Bay - the bad team that kicks our butts.

Cory Lidle gets the lion's share of the blame for this loss, but the offense sure didn't help. Mr. OBP, Bobby Abreu, went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts (maybe he needs a day off?). Mr. BA, Robby Cano, was 0 for 3. The only one who had a really good night was the oft-maligned Craig Wilson (2 for 3 with a walk and a home run - most of our scoring for the night).

Then there's Giambi (0 for 3). LoHud is reporting Giambi will see a doctor today. His wrist is still bothering him. He's expected to sit out today's game. And Mo is still on the sidelines, too. We're lucky the division race isn't close this year.

By the bottom of the 8th inning, down 2-9, all the scrubs were in. Kevin Thompson was in CF (which I can't help but think of as Bubba's spot - sigh). Cannizaro helped spark a small rally, but it was too little, too late. Thompson ended up flying out to end the game.

Speaking of Bubba...the Pride of the Yankees blog at NJ.com has this bit:

Underneath the Mariano info in the Post is a blurb about the long-forgotten Bubba Crosby. The outfielder, who didn't get called up and now likely won't be due to lack of space on the 40-man roster, told the paper, "I understand, it's time for me to move on and get the opportunity to play. I wanted to come back but I understand. I think this will be their year, especially the way they are playing lately." The fact that he says "They" indicates how far Crosby has fallen. As happy as we are watching Melky Cabrera play, there's a part of us that wishes Bubba had been given the same opportunity. Long live the Bubba.

They've always been Bubba fans at Pride of the Yankees. Long live the Bubba, indeed.
